What is cardboard and paper?
Paperboard is thicker than average paper, but it is still just one layer. Cardboard is three layers of heavy paper, two flat with a wavy one in the middle. Because they have different layers of paper and different weights, these two products cannot be recycled together or in the same way.
How do you dispose of paper?
If the amount of paper is not large, you can use a zip lock bag to soak the paper into water. Put some water in the plastic zip lock bag then put in the paper. Leave it to sit for a while then go ahead and squeeze the water from the paper to make pulp, you can then dispose in a bin.
Why paper waste is a problem?
Pulp and paper is the 3rd largest industrial polluter of air, water and soil. Chlorine-based bleaches are used during production which results in toxic materials being released into our water, air and soil. When paper rots, it emits methane gas which is 25 times more toxic than CO2.
How do you dispose of worn cardboard?
Remove wet or contaminated cardboard that can’t be recycled.
Throw wet or contaminated cardboard in the trash. Most cardboard containers that have traces of food, like takeout containers and coffee cups, should be thrown out or composted if they can’t be recycled.
